2005-06 Season Schedule
2005-06 Schedule Released: Finally
hockey is back! The Islanders will return to the Nassau Coliseum on
September 20 in a preseason game against rival New York Rangers. As for
the regular season, the NHL has changed the format a bit so that division
foes will face each other 8 times a year, changed from 6 in 2003-04. To
accommodate this new format, conference teams will play less often,
sometimes not at all in certain years. 2005-06 will open up with some
instant drama on October 5th, as Miroslav Satan and Alexei Zhitnik will
skate into their old stomping grounds in Buffalo as members of the
Islanders. The home opener is three days later against the Carolina
Hurricanes on October 8th. October will see the Islanders faceoff against
the Rangers three times including a home at home on back to back days,
October 19th & 20th. November highlights three games including a home
at home with the Philadelphia Flyers. In January, the Islanders will face
Carolina three times including a home at home and will face New Jersey in
a home at home battle as well. February will see the NHL shut down for a
couple of weeks due to the Olympic participation. The Islanders will close
out March & April with a heavy schedule which includes a home at home
battle against Pittsburgh in the final weeks and two visits to Madison
Square Garden in the final month. The Isles will face former leaders
Michael Peca when Edmonton visits the Coliseum on December 10th and Adrian
Aucoin when they visit Chicago January 17th.
