Blake Leads Isles to Win in Philly

Isles 4, PHI 1: The Islanders took on the Flyers in Philadelphia in what was basically their 5th straight game on the road. A solid effort in goal by Rick DiPietro, special teams and 3 points by Jason Blake staked them to a win.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jason Blake had a goal and two assists to lead the New York Islanders to their fifth straight preseason victory, 4-1 Tuesday night over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Islanders captain Michael Peca snapped a 1-1 tie at 1:56 of the third period, scoring on a 2-on-1 break after Robert Esche made the initial save on a shot by Blake.

Blake made it 3-1 at 14:45 of the third. Radek Martinek and Adrian Aucoin also scored power-play goals for the Islanders (5-0).

John LeClair tied it 1-1 for the Flyers 50 seconds into the third period.

The Islanders thwarted seven Philadelphia power-play opportunities including 45 seconds of a two-man advantage late in the second period.

Rick DiPietro went the distance in goal for the Islanders and made 25 saves.

Esche, who replaced Jeff Hackett at the start of the third period, allowed three goals on 10 shots. Hackett stopped 10 of 11 shots.

Sept 24: The Islanders continue their preseason trek on the road as they skate in Philadelphia, a place where they have enjoyed past success.

Isles vs. Philadelphia Preview: Normally Garth Snow gets the starts in Philadelphia but coach Steve Stirling will keep to his preseason rotation which will see Rick DiPietro play tonight. The Islanders are down to eight defensemen in camp. Roman Hamrlik and Kenny Jonsson are scheduled to sit tonight's game out while Sven Butenschon sees action along with 18 year old Bruno Gervais. Up front, Mark Parrish will not dress. Dave Scatchard is still recuperating from a sore groin. As for the Flyers, they are 2-2-1 in the preseason. The Islanders will face the Flyers again Thursday night this time in Hershey, PA. It's officially listed as an Islander home game.
