1974 NHL All-Star Game (27th)

Wales 6, East 4

Chicago's Stan Mikita, with a goal and two assists, and St.
Louis' Gary Unger, with a goal and an assist, led the
expansionist West to a come-from-behind 6-4 triumph over the
East.
The
East jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period but the West
roared back to score three unanswered goals in the second.
Unger, voted the game's MVP, scored what proved to be the
winning goal at 7:54 of the final period. The 10 goals were
the most scored in an All-Star contest.
A
capacity crowd of 16,426 attended the game at Chicago Stadium.
New York Islander Denis Potvin, an NHL rookie making
his first All-Star Game appearance, scored the East's third
goal.

1975 NHL All-Star Game (28th)

Wales Conference 7, Campbell Conference 1

NHL
expansion turned the All-Star Game into a battle of
conferences: the Prince of Wales Conference against the
Clarence Campbell Conference. In this first such pairing,
Wales won easily, 7-1, at the Montreal Forum before a capacity
crowd of 16,080.
Pittsburgh's Syl Apps Jr., son of a former NHL great, scored
twice for Wales and was voted the game's MVP. Apps was the
first son of an NHL All-Star to appear in an All-Star Game.
The
lone goal for the Campbell Conference was scored by New York
Islander Denis Potvin.

1976 NHL All-Star Game (29th)

Wales Conference 7, Campbell Conference 5

Montreal's Pete Mahovlich collected a goal and three assists
to pace Wales to a 7-5 victory over Campbell in the
highest-scoring All-Star Game ever played.
It was
a close game until midway of the second period, when Campbell
coach Fred Shero inserted Philadelphia's Wayne Stephenson in
goal. Wales scored on it's first three shots against
Stephenson to open a 6-1 lead. Wales coasted the rest of the
way before a crowd of 16,436 at the Philadelphia Spectrum.
Mahovlich was voted MVP.
With
Campbell trailing 7-1, New York Islanders' Bryan Trottier
and Billy Harris combined to set up Denis Ververgaert
for two goals 10 seconds apart early in the third period. Denis
Potvin added a goal and an assist to draw Campbell to
within two, but it was not enough.

1977 NHL All-Star Game (30th)
January 25, 1977 at Vancouver
Wales Conference 4, Campbell Conference 3

Rick
Martin of Buffalo scored two third-period goals, including the
game-winner with under two minutes to play, as Wales won their
third straight over Campbell, 4-3, at the Pacific Coliseum in
Vancouver.
Martin, voted MVP, scored at the four-minute mark to give the
Wales a 3-2 lead. After the Rangers' Phil Esposito tied it
with a goal at 12:23, Martin beat the Islanders' Chico
Resch from in close with 1:56 remaining for the winning
score before a crowd of 15,613.
Denis
Potvin recorded two assists in the game while he and Bob
Nystrom combined to set up Philadelphia's Rick MacLeish
for a goal in the losing cause.

1978 NHL All-Star Game (31st)

Wales
continued it's domination of the All-Star classic, defeating
Campbell, 3-2, for the fourth straight year.
Buffalo's Gil Perrault scored at 3:55 of sudden-death overtime
for the winning score. The MVP award went to New York Islander
goalie Billy Smith of Campbell, who stopped 16 shots in
the first 30 minutes of action. A crowd of 16,433 attended the
game at the Buffalo Auditorium.
Five
Islanders played in this game, a team record. Denis Potvin
recorded the Campbell Conference's first goal.

New
York Islander Mike Bossy scored late in the second
period to snap a 2-2 tie and then added an insurance goal
early in the third period to send the Wales to a 4-2 decision
over the Campbell Conference stars. John Tonelli
recorded an assist on Bossy's winning goal.
While
MVP Bossy was providing the offense, goaltenders Michel Dion
of Pittsburgh and Don Edwards of Buffalo combined to stop 29
shots and helped Wales win the sixth time in seven games. A
capacity crowd of 18,130 was on hand.

1983 NHL All-Star Game (35th)

The
only NHL All-Star Game to be held at the home of the New York
Islanders, Nassau Coliseum.
The
star of the show on this night would be Edmonton Oilers star
Wayne Gretzky. He scored four goals in the final period,
shattering four All-Star Game records and helping the Campbell
Conference post a 9-3 victory over the Wales Conference.
Gretzky's outburst helped the Campbell turn a close 3-2 game
into a rout and hand the Wales only their second loss in eight
games. A capacity crowd of 15,230 witnessed Gretzky's feat,
which won him MVP honors.

1986 NHL All-Star Game (38th)

New
York Islanders teammates Mike Bossy and Bryan
Trottier combined on a two-on-one in overtime to give the
Wales Conference a 4-3 win over the Campbell Conference before
a sellout crowd of 15,100 at the Civic Arena in Hartford.
Trottier took a pass from Bossy and beat goaltender Andy Moog
of Edmonton from in close to give the Wales Conference the
victory in only the second overtime All-Star Game in history.
The MVP award went to Campbell goalie Grant Fuhr of Edmonton,
who stopped all 15 shots he faced.

1991 NHL All-Star Game (42nd)

Vincent Damphousse, playing in his first All-Star Game, tied a
record with four goals, three coming in the third period, as
the Campbell Conference stars routed the Wales stars, 11-5, at
Chicago Stadium.
Damphousse, the only Toronto Maple Leafs' representative,
scored midway through the first period to give Campbell a 2-1
lead. He then took over in the final 11:06, beating Wales'
goaltender Andy Moog of Boston to tie Wayne Gretzky and Mario
Lemieux for most goals in an All-Star Game and win MVP honors.
New
York Islander Pat LaFontaine recorded the first two
goals of the game for the Wales Conference.

1993 NHL All-Star Game (44th)

The
Rangers' Mike Gartner tied an All-Star Game record with four
goals, three coming in the first period, as the Wales
Conference routed the Campbell Conference in the
highest-scoring All-Star game in history. Gartner scored at
3:15 and 3:37 of the opening period, then added a third at
18:02 to give the Wales a 6-0 lead. Gartner's fourth, at 3:33
of the second period, made it 8-0.
The
Islanders' Pierre Turgeon had three goals and two
assists for the Wales but lost out in the MVP balloting to
Gartner. A crowd of 17,137 watched the game at the Montreal
Forum.

1994 NHL All-Star Game (45th)

Ottawa's Alexei Yashin scored with 3:42 remaining in the third
period to give the Eastern Conference a come-from-behind 9-8
victory over the Western Conference before a sellout crowd of
18,200 at New York's Madison Square Garden. The East trailed
8-6 with less than 10 minutes remaining, but goals by Quebec's
Joe Sakic and Forida's Bob Kudelski rallied them into a tie.
Then Yashin, who had scored a goal in the first period, beat
Western goalie Curtis Joseph of St. Louis for the game-winner.
Eastern Conference goaltender Mike Richter of the Rangers, who
stopped 17 of 19 shots in the second period, was named MVP.
Once again overlooked was the performance of New York Islander
Pierre Turgeon, who recorded four assists in the game
including one on Yashin's game-winner. In his two appearances
as an Islander at the NHL All-Star Game, Turgeon recorded 3
goals and 9 points.

New
York Islander Adrian Aucoin made news in the NHL Skills
Competition by winning the hardest shot contest as he was
clocked in at 102.2 mph. Islander Mattias Weinhandl
took part in the Youngstars Game prior to the Skills
Competition.
Aucoin
would score the first goal of the game 5:44 into the first
period, with an assist by Mark Messier, who moved into third
place all-time in All-Star Game scoring with the point. While the East
went on to win the game 6-4, it was the West's Joe Sakic that
took the MVP honors with a hat trick.

New
York Islander Jason Blake made his first NHL All-Star
Game appearance and he represented the team proudly recorded
two assists in the East's 12-9 loss.
Blake
received a secondary assist on a go ahead goal by Carolina's
Eric Staal in the first period that made it 3-2. Blake later
recorded the only assist in the second period on a goal by
Carolina's Justin Williams that tied the score 4-4. Jason
grabbed the puck after a missed shot down by the circle and
backhanded a pass through the slot to a waiting Williams.
Buffalo's Daniel Briere won the MVP in the losing cause
recording a goal and 5 points.
