* islesinfo.com has
produced an exclusive video of Igor Volkov. Check it out
below! He has some very good offensive skills. Some
great moves. Powerful skater with a stride similar to a
Zednik/Bure type. At about the 1:42 mark of the video
you can see a hat trick he scored. Later, he steals a
puck at center ice, skates in on the goaltender and puts
on a Forsberg/Jagr type move to score. Very impressive
stuff. Let's hope the Islanders can get him signed. The
video is 4 minutes long. Volkov wears #51.

2005-06 Update: Igor
Volkov returned to Salavat Yulayev for 2005-06. He was
named to the Russian League All Star game on January 18,
2006. He was named to the Eastern Conference team and
the game was played Jan. 22nd. He's already reached the
15 goal mark equaling his career high from last season,
2004-05.
Despite scoring a
career high 15 goals in 2004-05, Volkov was traded to
Dynamo Moskva. Even though his ice time suffered a bit
due to the NHL lockout and influx of NHL'ers to Europe,
Volkov still put up a career year with 27 points. He had
a breakout season in 2003-04 with 11 goals and 24
points in 43 games played for Salavat Yulayev.
Look for the Islanders
to probably attempt to bring Volkov over to North
America for 2006-07.
NHL Futures March 16, 2005
Islanders Head Amateur
Scout Tony Feltrin: "Volkov got traded at the
deadline to Dynamo. He's a hard-working player and good
in traffic. He has some finish around the net. He
doesn't have a big body, but he plays bigger, and at a
high tempo. We took him in the eighth round but thought
he was a much better player than that. Actually, you
have to be signed up with the Central Scouting Bureau
and he wasn't on the pre-approved list. We took a chance
that we were one of the few teams interested in him and
it worked out."
Isles select LW Igor Volkov
246th
June 22: The
Islanders use their 9th and final pick in the eighth round to select
their 6th European born player, left winger Igor Volkov from Ufa
Salavat Yulayev, RUS. This past season he was a teammate of Roman
Kuhtinov. Volkov was not rated by the Central Scouting Bureau.
An 1983 birthdate makes Volkov currently 20 years old.
Islanders Scouting Report:
Volkov, a right wing
who plays the off-wing, tallied nine goals and 14 points
in 37 games this past season for Ufa in the Russian
SuperLeague.
"He's an '83
birthdate and I've seen him at some international
tournaments," said Tony Feltrin. "He's a good
two-way player who is strong along the boards and has
solid stick skills. He has some finish around the
net."
The 20-year old
competed well against players much older than him in
Russia. "His output was pretty good for a player of
his age in that league," said Feltrin.
islesinfo.com: The oldest player the
Islanders drafted in the 2003 draft. Volkov was a teammate of Kukhtinov's
for the last 2 seasons. Volkov will return to Salavat for 2003-04. He has
steadily improved with more ice time the last 3 seasons. Shoots left.
Wears #51 for Salavat.
