Red Line Report (April 2007)
Rising: Simon Lacroix — Shawinigan went out four straight in the playoffs, but he showed well and also put up a lot of points down the stretch.

CSB: Final Ranking 148th

- Named to the QMJHL 2006-07 Rookie All Star Team
- lists favorite player as Alexander Ovechkin
- has been compared in style to former Cataractes player D Marc-Andre Bergeron

Islanders QMJHL Scout Mario Saraceno: Simon has a right shot, which is always a plus for a defenseman. At 6-2, 175 lbs he has a lot of size to fill. Simon is a smart defensive player, but also has an offensive upside. He makes that first pass well and plays on the power plays. Last year as a 17-year old he logged 30 minutes of ice time a game, but we expect he'll play even more this season. The coaches on Shawinigan loved his attitude and character. We're glad to have picked Simon in the seventh round, and look forward to seeing his potential once he fills out a bit. Once he fills out more it will help him increase his strength. Fishing out of LNH: Bourque-Leblanc believes in it, Lacroix a little less
by Steve Turcotte, cyberpresse.ca, June 22, 2007 (roughly translated from French)

For hundreds of young hockeyeurs, this weekend is quite special. After years of sacrifices, they have finally the chance to be fished out by the teams of the national League, which would concretize their dream still more to earn their living with shoes and a pair of shoulder pads.

Adam Bourque-Leblanc and Simon Lacroix belong to the athletes who were épiés by the recruiters during the last season. The two back ones of the Cataracts are respectively indexed 131e and 148e among the North-American hopes available and suspense is announced long for them because they will be called in the last rounds if ever a team decides to claim them.

If Bourque-Leblanc believes in its chances to hear its name, Lacroix is much less trustful and it decided to remain at the house rather than to go to take seat in the steps of the residence of Blue Jackets. For its part, Bourque-Leblanc will be there with its family, while hoping to bring back a new pullover and a new cap of Ohio.

“I have a good feeling. I think that that well will occur”, explained the native young man of Sorel. “I spoke in some teams, in particular San Jose, Montreal, New Jersey, Islanders and Edmonton. I slept well until very recently but there, the butterflies in the stomach appeared and I am in a hurry to be with Columbus!”

Leblanc-Bourque felt that certain teams were more interested than others in its services but it prefers not too much to be worried the spirit with the identity of the team which will misera on him.

“That does not give anything to think of that. When I was exchanged with the Cataracts last winter, there was a package of rumours around my name except… in Shawinigan! I also know that Sharks had not even spoken only once in Steve Bernier before claiming it in first round a few years ago. Me, all that I ask, it is to be fished out. My only small preference, it is to atterir in a city where the weather is hot!”

Lacroix is badly less optimistic than its partner with the blue line. Even if three teams contacted it (San Jose, Montreal and Rangers) and that it was named on the team of stars of the recruits of the Courteau circuit last season, the Ontarian skater does not have the impression only it is reproduced advantageously on the lists of the recruiters.

“I am disappointed, because I was content with my season and I thought of being dissociated to me. However me was said that one did not need that I improve my speed and my mobility, then it but does not remain me any more to take the mouthfuls doubles to progress more.”

In theory, Lacroix will not even look at the fishing out via the small screen Saturday. “I have a drive of envisaged with the players of the Cataracts, then I cannot be in two places at the same time. Unless my trainer gives me the permission to remain at the house… I will discuss it with him.”

islesinfo.com comment: Another article with mention of the Islanders and a player. Yet this time, it mentions the Islanders interviewed Adam Bourque-Leblanc. Maybe we should remember this name for the future. Funny how Bourque-Leblanc ended up being the player to go undrafted while Lacroix, who didn't go to the draft was nabbed by the Islanders.

Simon Lacroix, D (Shawinigan, QMJHL, 6-2, 183)
An under-the-radar defenseman, Lacroix quietly did a nice job in Shawinigan. He’s a good-sized kid that can get the puck on net; and he can really wire it.

“He has good vision and makes a good first pass,” said one NHL Eastern Conference scout.

Defensively, Lacroix needs to improve in several areas. At times, he makes poor decisions with the puck when faced with an aggressive forecheck.

“He also needs to get stronger,” said the scout.

But his skating is good, and he brings a strong effort to the rink.  Lacroix should go in the fourth or fifth round.
