Isles Info:
Ketola was
the captain of his Finnish junior team. Considered a "heart and
soul" type player by the Islanders scouting staff, he played for
Finland's entry at last years Under 18 World Championships. He is
projected as a checking forward and is a member of Finland's national
junior team.
On June 27, 2001 he
was drafted 18th overall by the QMJHL's Sherbrooke
Castors in the CHL Import Draft for European born
players. Was ranked 59th by the CSB among European
players for the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
The Islanders acquired
this pick(287th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft
from New Jersey along with G Chris Terreri in exchange
for G John Vanbiesbrouck March 12th, 2001.
2001-02 Update:
Ketola put up some
decent numbers in his rookie season with a poor
Sherbrooke team. He led the team in rookie scoring and
notched 27 assists, but needs to find the net more after
scoring only 8 goals. He also needs to improve on his
plus/minus rating, which was a dismal -25.
2002-03 Update:
Juha-Pekka Ketola has
returned to his native land of Finland to play for Lukko.
He played with the Sherbrooke Castors of the QMJHL last
season. He went 8-27-35 in 67 games played.
