Jeremy Colliton was the New York Islanders second round pick, 58th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Before joining the Islanders by signing a three year entry level contract on July 28, 2005, Colliton played four years with the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders. In 229 games played with the Raiders Jeremy recorded 71 goals and 176 points. Colliton is a two time member of Team Canada at the World Junior Championships. In 2004 he served as a depth role player for the Silver Medal winning Canadian Team in Helsinki, Finland. For the 2005 tournament in Grand Forks, North Dakota, Colliton was ready to play a much more important role for Canada under new head coach Brent Sutter. Colliton was scheduled to play on a dangerous line made up of current Boston Bruin Patrice Bergeron and future superstar Sidney Crosby. The line was nearly unstoppable. Unfortunately Colliton would sustain an injury in one of the final exhibition games. He tried to make it back during the round robin, but re-injured himself in his second game of the tournament. He never made it back but Canada went on to win the Gold Medal. Colliton joined the Islanders in 2005 and he was sent to Bridgeport of the AHL. As a rookie he was one of the Sound Tigers leading scorers recording 21 goals and 53 points in 66 games played. He also developed as the team's best penalty killer by seasons' end. During the course of the 2005-06 NHL season, Colliton was called upon numerous times to play for the Islanders. He made his NHL debut in November of 2005. He was called up three more times during the month of March and in April he played in the Islanders final 8 games of the season following their elimination from playoff contention. His first NHL goal came on April 15, 2006 in a 5-4 shootout victory vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins. His goal at the time gave the Islanders a 4-2 lead and it was assisted by Sean Bergenheim and Wyatt Smith. A photo of the goal can be seen below. The Islanders are hoping Colliton continues to develop and will one day contribute to the team's success at both ends of the ice. |
