Islanders scout Tony
Feltrin: "Jan
Holub missed the last month with an injury. He's a basic
stay-at-home defenseman, not a real tall kid, but he's
strong."

Holub is
considered a work in progress by European scout Anders Kallur. His style
of game is that of a stay at home defenseman but he needs more playing
time to develop. He was ranked 38th overall by CSB among European
skaters. Holub was added to the Czech Republic national junior team
midway through 2000-01. Shoots left.
Jan Holub made the
2003 Czech entry at the World Junior Championships. He's
still honing his game in Europe, but has turned heads
with his steady play. He's a big kid at 6-3 and will be
expected to develop both physically and hockey-wise.
During his draft year, in 21 games with Liberec in the
Czech ExtraLiga, Holub posted two goals, two assists and
four points. He had an even +/- rating with four penalty
minutes. He was a member of the Czech Republic team that
placed sixth at the 2003 World Junior
Championships. In six games, he didn't register a
point, but had a team-high 14 penalty minutes and a –4
rating. He can move the puck well and also is becoming
comfortable in taking the body according to the
Islanders scouting staff.
