Rod Dallman was the New York Islanders 6th round pick, 118th overall, in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. He played his junior hockey for the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders from 1984-87. Dallman never recorded big numbers for the Raiders, tallying 20 goals once during the 1985-86 season. Following his junior career, the Islanders signed Dallman to a contract and sent him to the Springfield Indians of the AHL. In February of 1988, the Patrick Division leading Islanders called up Dallman for a 3 game stint which started on the back end of a home and home series with the Hartford Whalers. After taking the first game 3-0, the Islanders would trounce the Whalers in the second game 7-2. Dallman, playing in his first NHL game, would record his first career NHL goal. After seeing action in the next two home games against Vancouver and Chicago, the Islanders returned Dallman to the minors. He would go on to finish the season with the IHL's Peoria Rivermen where he experienced some playoff action. In 1988-89 Dallman returned to the Indians lineup and spent the entire season there. He was called up to the Islanders for one game during the NHL season to face the Edmonton Oilers. In that game Dallman recorded 15 penalty in minutes. 1989-90 would be Dallman's last in the Islanders organization, but it would turn out to be his most memorable because of what he would accomplish with the Indians. After recording 10 goals and 30 points in only 43 regular season games with Springfield, Dallman went on to record another 5 goals and 10 points in 15 playoff games as the Indians went on to capture the Calder Cup championship. He also made one final appearance for the Islanders in their Patrick Division Semifinal series against the New York Rangers, recording an assist in the game. Dallman became a free agent July 1, 1990. On July 31st he signed with the Philadelphia Flyers. In his first season in the Flyers' organization, Dallman only played in 17 games split between the IHL's San Diego Gulls and the AHL's Hershey Bears. He played in 31 more games with Hershey in 1991-92 and he also suited up for 2 more NHL games with the Flyers. He retired following the 1991-92 season. |
