Rob Collins

Number: 26
Born: Whitby, Ont., 7/16/1979
Position: Left Wing

Rob Collins played college hockey at Ferris State University from 1998-2002. In 125 career games played with the Bulldogs, Collins scored 44 goals and 133 points. He was a Hobey Baker finalist in his senior year of 2001-02 with 15 goals and 48 points in 36 games played. Undrafted by an NHL team probably because of his smallish frame, the 5'11" and 180 lbs. Collins signed as a free agent with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins near the end of the 2001-02 season. He spent the entire 2002-03 season with Grand Rapids under head coach Danton Cole and helped the team to a 48 win season.

In 2003 Collins was signed to a two year deal by the New York Islanders. He would spend the next two seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and in 2004-05 he recorded a career high and team leading 23 goals, 62 points in 78 games played. Rob's production earned him another one year contract by the Islanders for 2005-06.

Due to some injuries to the Islanders lineup, Collins would get the call to make his NHL debut on December 17, 2005 vs. the Colorado Avalanche. He traveled with the team to Toronto for their next game against the Maple Leafs and Collins would record his first NHL goal against Ed Belfour in a memorable and crazy 9-6 Islanders loss. Over the course of the rest of the month of December, and again in March Collins would get the call up to the Islanders only to be sent back down to Bridgeport shortly after.

Still, Collins managed to lead the Sound Tigers in scoring for the second year in a row with 21 goals and 69 points in 67 games played. He currently ranks as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers all-time leading point getter with 163 points in 220 games played.

The Islanders decided to not re-sign Collins for the 2006-07 season and he has gone overseas to play for the DEG Metro Stars in the DEL.
