Vladimir Chebaturkin was the New York Islanders 3rd round pick, 66th overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. Predominantly known as a defensive defenseman, Chebaturkin brings some size to the game at 6'2", 213 lbs. During his first two seasons with the Isles he was called up on a few occasions and managed to play in 10 games. His only points came in his second NHL game at the Nassau Coliseum against the Pittsburgh Penguins as he accounted for two assists in a 4-3 Islanders win. In 1999-00 Chebaturkin was called upon for more games, 17 in total, but this time impressed with his solid defensive play. Some believed that perhaps he could have some good potential. But a rumor circulated around that a group of Islander lawyers ( John Santos? ) apparently tried to force Chebaturkin to sign an extension during a flight back from a game. Chebaturkin refused and was subsequently sent to the minors. He finished the season out with Lowell of the AHL and was allowed to become a free agent in July of 2000. His lone goal as an Islander came in another two point effort in a 5-2 Islander win at the Fleet Center against the Boston Bruins on January 8, 2000.

     Chebaturkin was signed as a free agent by St. Louis for 2000-01 and went 1-2-3 in 22 games played. He then signed as a free agent with Chicago for 2001-02 and went 0-2-2 in 13 games. Each season he saw more time in the AHL. In July of 2002 Chebaturkin joined his fourth team in as many years when he signed as a free agent with the New York Rangers. He wound up playing the entire 2002-03 season with the Hartford Wolf Pack.

     In 2003 Chebaturkin returned to play hockey in Russia. Over the last four years he has seen action with Kazan Ak-Bars, Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik and Khabarovsk Amur for 2006-07. In 62 career NHL games played Chebaturkin went 2-7-9.
